The Potion Diaries - A Review By Jen

What is it about?
Princess Evelyn make a love potion to make her friend Zain fall in love with her but she accidently takes it herself and ends up falling in love with her own refelction. Enter Samantha an aprentice alchemist, who joins with others on a wild hunt to find a cure.

Who is it for?
For younger readers.

Genre?
Fantasy/ Adventure

Is it any good?
To be honest I thoroughly enjoyed it. The narrative is split between Samantha and Evelyn, the latter is humorous as she wonders and ponders her love life for 'Lyn'. She renames herself Evie, as she couldn't possibly fall in love with someone with the same name, who looks exactly like her.
Samantha's narrative takes us through the adventure as she defies her family to join the hunt. There is family history with Royals and the Wilde hunts as synthetic products were used to make potions and Samantha's family does not believe in the use of these products. In this fantasy world people are born 'talented' as in wizardry and witchcraft or alchemists who will mix substances with potions.
Samantha battles with herself, her origins and her feelings for Zain and the kings bitch of a sister Eilia who does not want to cure the Princess, she wants to become Queen. This is one delightful romp.

Was the end satisfactory?
I think the ending is left open for the sequel, I hope Emilia makes a reappearance. I don't want to spoil it for you, but I hope we see more of a friendship blossoming between Samantha and Evelyn.

Would I recommend this book?
Yes, I think a younger reader is required or just a big kkid with a big imagination
